Vincenzo Visconti lives the luxurious life of a wealthy Tuscan wine estate owner: award-winning wines, beautiful women, and parties lasting until dawn. But one day everything changes. He suffers an accident and is confined to a wheelchair. Unable to cope with the loss of his freedom, he becomes unbearable and falls into deep depression.
Amira, of Nigerian origin, also sees her life turned upside down when she is captured by human traffickers as a child. She later becomes a famous model, but pays a high price for her success. Fleeing from the underworld, she finds refuge among the vineyards of a picturesque Tuscan landscape. Only one person casts a shadow over this idyllic setting: Vincenzo Visconti, who does everything he can to drive the outspoken young woman away from his estate.
Anne L. Green’s novel is the story of two broken people who seem to fight each other, but are in fact battling themselves. It shows that there is no sweeter victory than overcoming one’s own weaknesses in the hardest times.
